Biologging Technology
While radio-telemetry has been around since the 1960s, it was not until the use of GPS technology that we truly obtained detailed information on animal movement.
Today, new technology allows us to go further than movement and monitor simultaneous ecological and physiological parameters in free-living animals. With the advent of open source microcontrollers, like Arduino, we can design specific equipment to our research needs. These devices are also cost effective, thus allowing people in the scientific community, who may not have had funds for expensive biologging equipment, to conduct high-quality field research from GPS tracking to monitoring ambient conditions with sensors. |

LoRa Technology & Internet of Things (IoT)
If you have ever worked with GPS devices, you know that getting the data either requires recapturing the animal or transmitting the data to a receiving station. The other challenge is finding a way to transmit those data without draining the battery on your device (because it was expensive!). With the rapid pace that technology is advancing, it can be hard to keep track of everything. Long Range technology is a great, cost-effective alternative to address the challenges of GPS tracking and general data transmission.
